On 30th October 2023, the 1st Convocation Ceremony of LAU was organized at Pegasus Hotel, Seawall Road, Georgetown, Guyana, celebrating the remarkable achievements of its graduates. It was a momentous occasion marked by joy, pride, and the promise of a bright future for the graduating class of 2018-19.
Amid an atmosphere filled with great excitement and enthusiasm, 65 students donned their caps and gowns and were granted their degrees symbolizing years of dedication, hard work, and commitment to their education. The ceremony was graced by the presence of our Chief Guest, His Excellency, Dr. Amit Telang, High Commissioner of India to Guyana.
Other dignitaries who attended the ceremony were Mr. Charran Das Persaud, Former High Commissioner of India to Guyana, Mr. Troy Torrington, Ambassador, Ministry of External Affairs, Guyana; Mr. Rudra Jayanta Bhagwati, Director, Swami Vivekanand Cultural Center, Guyana; Mr. Anand Kumar, Managing Director, Bank of Baroda; Dr. Immanuel Cummings, Deputy Chancellor, University of Guyana; and Dr. Abdullah Ansari, Dean, University of Guyana.
The event commenced with a speech by Retd. Air Marshall Dr. Pawan Kapoor, Vice Chancellor of Lincoln American University who welcomed all the dignitaries and also paid tribute to Lt. Dr. Wesely Torington, Former Dean, of Lincoln American University.
One of the highlights of the event was the speech by our chief guest, His Excellency, Dr. Amit Telang, High Commissioner of India to Guyana, who congratulated all the graduating students. He imparted his valuable insights and offered guidance to the students, emphasizing the importance of upholding the highest standards of professionalism in medical practices. He particularly appreciated the start of the graduating ceremony by reciting various religious scriptures of different students of the faculty which were in line with the Indian culture.
The convocation ceremony also included the addresses of our distinguished guests, Mr. Charran Das and Dr. Cummings. Moreover, Dr. Rafi Ruzan, Head of the Department, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Georgetown Public Hospital.
Then the moment came when all the graduating students received their certificates and degrees. Each graduate walked to the stage receiving their certificates and degrees with profound excitement and pride.
The expression of gratitude was presented by Dr. Yusuf Abdullah, Dean of LAU. All the graduates solemnly recited the Hippocratic Oath, pledging their commitment to serving society with the principles of equality, justice, beneficence, and primum-non-nocere (first, do no harm). The event, filled with both joy and poignant moments, concluded with a sumptuous dinner.
