On November 26, the High Commission of India to Guyana organized a cultural event in the city of Georgetown to celebrate the Constitution Day of India or “Samvidhan Divas.”
The celebration was organized with the spirit of three beautiful words that marks the start of the Indian Constitution; “We The People.”
While the Constitution of India came into effect on January 26, 1950, it was adopted on the historic day of November 26, 1949. The day of November 26, 2019 marked the completion of 70 years since the Indian Constitution was adopted.
To celebrate the special day, High Commission organized the Constitution Day Celebration. In the event, people from educational, corporate, government, and other institutions were invited to celebrate the spirit of “we” and seven decades of Indian Constitution, which now protects the rights of more than 125 crore people in the largest democracy of the world.
This celebration of democracy and freedom was graced by His Excellency Dr. K. J. Srinivasa, High Commissioner of India to Guyana, and participating diplomats, NRIs, friends, and people from other walks of life.
Mr. Ranganath, Registrar of Lincoln American University (LAU), and 26 LAU students participated in the event. The auspicious event was inaugurated with lighting lamps followed by speeches from the dignitaries.

During the event, His Excellency Dr. K. J. Srinivasa apprised the participants of the history of the Indian Constitution, its values, and how it continues to strengthen our democracy.
“Gandhiji was an Indian but he belongs not just to India. The people whom Gandhiji never met were also greatly influenced by his life, whether it was Martin Luther King, Jr. or Nelson Mandela. The basis of their ideas was Gandhiji’s vision. Gandhiji never tried to make an impact from his life but his life became the cause of inspiration. Today, we are living in the era of how to impress but Gandhiji’s vision was how to inspire. Gandhiji was not only a political leader but also a great thinker and humanist.”

In the event, participants got an opportunity to have one-to-one interaction with His Excellency Dr. K. J. Srinivasa. His Excellency Dr. K. J. Srinivasa was delighted to see the students and interacted personally with all of them. Students introduced themselves to His Excellency. His Excellency Dr. K. J. Srinivasa was very happy to meet aspiring doctors from different regions, including Guyana, Asia, and Africa.

Before the conclusion of the ceremony, His Excellency Dr. K. J. Srinivasa shared the stage with registrars and members of different institutions of Guyana who participated in the event and presented a copy of the Indian Constitution.

The celebration was an occasion for all the participants to come closer to the history and Constitution of India and develop a deeper understanding of the world’s largest democratic nation. Students were thrilled to have this opportunity of exploring more about India at the event, interacting with High Commissioner and other people from different areas.
The enthusiastic participation of Guyanese in the event and their curiosity to explore India is also a testimony to the deep and cordial bond of friendship and co-operation that India and Guyana share. In a way, that’s no wonder, given the fact that 40% of people in Guyana are of Indian origin. Presently, more than 100 Indian students are studying at Lincoln American University’s Campus and pursuing medical education in Guyana.

Participation in community and cultural programs make sure that our students develop not only in the area of education but in all areas of life. These events allow students to gain insights into the culture and values of different people and different regions, develop connections, and build new perspectives.
On occasion, we took the opportunity to request His Excellency Dr. K. J. Srinivasa to grace the White Coat ceremony. The ceremony of newly qualified doctors shall be held as the first batch of LAU students complete their MD in Guyana. Gratefully, His Excellency Dr. K. J. Srinivasa assured of his presence at the ceremony.
We look forward to the day of hosting the White Coat Ceremony at the University Campus and cordially welcome His Excellency Dr. K. J. Srinivasa to Lincoln American University.
